Patent/Utility Model Search

• English search terms are now fully available for searching the full text of Korean patents and utility models. All terms in English will be machine translated into Korean.
• Only the interface for "Patent & Utility Model Search" is translated in English, so it's better to use Korean language to perform keyword search. It's possible to retrieve documents by using English search terms, if the title or abstract contains English words, but please use Korean to get more reliable results.
  Therefore, the Korean IME for your OS is necessary to input Korean. And the IE(Internet Explorer) and Acrobat Reader must support Korean language, because all the results are displayed in Korean.
  If you are having difficulties with inputting Korean, please use number or date search, otherwise, you can use KPA search.

Design Search

KIPRIS covers all the Korean design publications(laid-open, registered) and provides bibliography search and text search for the description of design.

Ex.) Search for designs related to “컵”(Cup in Korean) using design code.

1. Click the magnifier to open the design classification search window, enter the product name or code, select all the codes and submit the codes for the search.
2. Click the application number or registration number to view the detailed information.

※ Image list allows you to view multiple thumbnail images of designs.

Trademark Search

KIPRIS contains all kinds of Korean Mark data which includes trademark, service mark, business emblem, international trademark, etc. and provides bibliography search and text search for the designated goods and services.

Ex.) Search for trademarks containing “KIPRIS” in the trademark name.

1. Enter search query and click “Search” button.
2. Click the application number to view the detailed information.

KPA Search

• KPA search system has not only the interface, but also the contents in English, so it's possible to use English search terms.
• But to view the Korean full text properly, please install Korean Font for the IE and Adobe Acrobat.
  The data coverage of KPA search is limited, it covers only Korean Patents published as English abstracts, from 1979 for examined patent publications and 2000 for unexamined patent publications. Please note the limitation of the data in KPA search. KPA search system provides legal status information in English.

Patent Document Number Format

Format 1 : Type(2 digits) - year(4 digits) - serial no.(7 digits)

• application number, publication number, unexamined publication number
• Ex.) tt - yyyy - nnnnnnn (10-2000-0012345)
• Ex.) 10-2007-7nnnnnn; serial no. starting with “7” is PCT application (before Jan. 1999 “07” is representing PCT application)
• Since post grant system was introduced in Jul. 1997, publication number(Gonggo number) was not assigned to B1 publications, registration number was assigned instead.

Format 2 : Type(2 digits) - serial no.(7 digits) - 0000

• registration number
• Ex.) tt - 0012345-0000

Type : 10 is for patent, 20 is for utility model, 30 is for design, 40 is for trademark
